These ceremonial bridal kimonos are offered from a private collection exclusively through Kyoto Kimono. Each is a dazzling example of Japanese craftsmanship and artistry which will stand the test of time. All silk, embroidered or hand-painted, and each one of a kind. Unless stated otherwise in the description, the fabric is silk, the condition is like new and the sizing is as follows: Length = 70-72", width from wrist to wrist is 50-52", and hip/waist 42-45". "Peacock in Paradise " Uchikake Bridal Kimono - $4500

Dazzling array of color and design in this exquisite gown. The turquoise green field shimmers behind a spectacular mix of jeweltones, all with gold highlights painted or stenciled or embroidered with French knots. The garden of blossoms reaches across the seams, across the shoulders, along the hem, and down each sleeve. No two pattern bundles are the same, but you'll find several royal peacocks in different poses and positions. The sexy red lining that peeks out at the sleeve, collar, and hemline. Designers' seal on the lapel.

"Whisper of Red " Kakeshita Wedding Kimono - $1065

Design: Wide bands of black and white provide the background to scattered floral bouquets in a wonderful color combination of soft mint greens and bright, bright red. White jaquard silk, with white shibori arches in the black wavy streambeds, and fully embroidered florals - including the palownia flower in red! - all trimmed in gold.
Style:

Kakeshita: This style of ceremonial kimono is a "lighter" style (sometimes called a wedding furisode) and has a thin padding at the hem, with most of the design located at the shoulders, sleeves and hemline, which leaves the waist area free if the bride chooses to wear this with an obi sash, though it can also be worn open, trailing behind, to reveal whatever she's wearing beneath it.

This traditional gown is the work of Hanae Mori, whose designs have made her one of Japan's foremost fashion designers over the last five decades. While her couture collections often marry Japanese images with modern styles, in this kimono design she chooses the simplicity of traditional Japanese bridal images to make her point. Cranes for faithfulness, pine for endurance, and plum blossoms for resilience and nobility. Mori's name is embossed on a sleeve and her signature HM Butterfly logo is on the lining.

The inevitable focal point of the room whether it is displayed on a wall or on a bride, this kelly green kimono features a modern design of open folding fans in two designs - clouds and a fog pattern. Lots of gold throughout - in the fans, in the cloud background, and stenciled designs of tiny diamond florals or gold leaf flecks. That brilliant orange-red, so common in Japanese ceremonial robes for it represents prosperity and good luck, is the accent color which provides a balance to the green and gold. The lining is the same red color, peeking out at the hem. Silver squares shimmer in the right light, catching the eye by surprise, as does the bright lining! A festive, delightful kimono!

"True Blue Love " Wedding Kimono - $750

This modern marvel glitters- literally! - with rich brocaded florals trimmed with metalic threads as well as the golden threads woven into the fabric. Nothing but flowers everywhere, heavier at the hemline and reaching up the back as the pattern thins out to reveal the wonderfully rich blue background. Blue is not a common color for wedding kimonos, which makes this one even more special. Blossoms in many colors - pastel and bold - and several types, from peonies to mums to....many we can't identify. Connecting the floating florals is a leafy arabesque design in gold that swirls and curls behind the floral. The red-orange lining peeks out at the inner sleeve edge and also at the padded hem.

The single color may seem plain compared to more richly colored kimonos, but the shiromuku is a perfect choice for a bride who wants both a white wedding and a Japanese flair.
